WHAT IS EAR IRRIGATION?

This is when wax/serum is removed from the ear using an electronic machine. The machine gently pumps water into the ear at a controlled pressure in order to clear.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO BEFORE...

Guidelines state that ear drops should be used for 5 days prior to irrigation, in order to soften the wax.
It is recommended to use Olive Oil 3-4 times daily if able for 3-5 days.
However, not everybody is able to have irrigation. Please click on the link below.

PRECAUTIONS

- Healed Perforation
- A Cleft palate (repaired or not)
- Tinnitus
- Dizziness
- Patients taking anticoagulants (Blood thinners)

It should also be noted that as with all ear syringing and micro suction there is always a risk of perforation of the ear drum (Tympanic Membrane). This risk is limited when the ear drum is not seen, there are no contraindications and when oil drops have been used appropriately prior to syringing. Therefore this is why examination is essential in order to reduce this risk.
